Seminar at Seiryukan with Kameo Sensei

Sunday 2 March, a little earlier than expected, was a pleasant spring day that invited to go for a walk or gardening. But it was at the Seiryukan Kyudojo in Wavre that some 20 top kyudokas from the Belgian and Luxembourg federations gathered to take lessons from Shigeyasu Kameo sensei, kyoshi rokudan, who had travelled from Germany especially for this.

After the opening rei and some introductory words from the sensei, the stage opened with a yawatashi, followed by hitote gyosha shots, with each participant getting a chance to shoot two arrows at the exam rhythm.

After these two series of shots, Kameo sensei focused his comments on the qualities he considered essential in the shooting technique: SHIN 深/KYŌ 強/DAÏ 大, which can be translated as depth/strength/greatness. In this way, all the elements of the shot, which accumulate incessantly from entering the shajō and at the hanare, should be visible in the zanshin. Each explanation was accompanied by concrete exercises that allowed the kyudokas to feel and assimilate the explanations given.

The afternoon was dedicated to free shooting, with careful corrections by the sensei to the last rei and thanks to and from the sensei.

All participants were unanimous about the quality of the training and with their heads, or notebooks, full of notes, everyone went home for a well-earned rest for the logical continuation of such a day, namely putting the learnings into practice and transmitting the instruction received.
