Seminar with Frédéric Demangeon sensei

From June 20 to 22, 2025, Shugetsukan had the honor of hosting the 42nd seminar of its kind, led for the third time by Demangeon Sensei, Kyoshi Rokudan. This event brought together around forty practitioners from all over Belgium, Luxembourg, and Lille, in an atmosphere that was both studious and warm.

A Seminar Focused on taihai

Taihai was explored in all its complexity, in connection with concepts such as depth, the pursuit of beauty, energy, dynamism, courtesy and respect, spatial awareness, and adaptability to the unexpected. Taihai also involves knowing how to act appropriately and eliminating the superfluous. Technique, therefore, is not an end in itself, but a means of communicating with each other: it must be integrated with openness, with the “ears of the heart,” to stabilize emotions.

The rigor, availability, and simplicity of Demangeon Sensei enabled free and enriching exchanges, allowing everyone to progress together in a spirit of conviviality.

Official Recognition

We had the privilege of welcoming, on behalf of the Ambassador of Japan, MIKAMI Masahiro, Mrs. NAKAO, Second Secretary, and on behalf of the Mayor of Koekelberg, Mrs. P’TITO, Mrs. FAOUZI, Alderman for Sports. Their relevant speeches demonstrated their interest in kyudo and the support of both local and Japanese authorities for our discipline.

For two and a half days, Demangeon Sensei provided individual advice and offered guidance on practicing a kyudo that is full of vitality, lightness, and sincerity. We warmly thank him for his generosity, as well as all the participants and guests for their enthusiasm.
